It was around this time last year that I began reaching out to my network to support me in a fundraising adventure to support the nonprofit, Save the Boundary Waters. People answered the call, and over the course of the past year, I have been busy trying to meet the goal of hiking 414 miles through Minnesota's lake country and north woods.
Much time, effort, and calories went into the preparation and execution of this journey. Although not all went to plan (including my original goal of hiking it all in one continuous stretch), the mission is not yet complete. I am pleased to report that I have made great progress towards this goal.
I included the challenge of filming myself along the way in order to share the magic of these places with others.
In addition to the physical act of hiking these miles, I included the challenge of filming myself along the way in order to share the magic of these places with others. This was not only strenuous in that I had to devote a lot of extra energy during my hike to record myself, but it also meant that I had a mountain of footage to go through once I got home.
Despite working in the TV industry, this is the first time I have taken on a video project from start to finish all on my own. There was (and still is) a lot to learn, especially from the editing side of things, but I have enjoyed the challenge of pushing through the difficult and uncomfortable hurdles. There aren't many things that make me squirm quite like having to watch and listen to myself talk on screen.
There is still a LONG way to go with creating a fully fledged story with this footage, but here is my YouTube video that gives a quick look into a bit of this adventure.

In June 2025, Adam signed up for Save the Boundary Waters’ peer-to-peer fundraising adventure. He's been sharing his journey with friends, family, and fellow outdoor lovers, all in support of the Wilderness he deeply cares about. He’s planning to wrap up his hike this summer and will share Part 2 of his experience when he's done. So far, he's completed 251 miles and has 163 left to do.
Anyone can take part in a peer-to-peer adventure.
Whether you paddle, hike, bike, run, stroll, or simply admire the Boundary Waters from afar, it’s a meaningful way to give back to a place that gives so much.
Getting started is easy: set a goal, create a fundraising page, and spread the word—we’ll guide you along the way.
