The Walter Mondale Legacy Fund
The Walter Mondale Legacy Fund is a special initiative to secure permanent and lasting protections for the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness from proposals to develop sulfide-ore copper mines in its headwaters. The Mondale Legacy Fund honors the conservation legacy and work of the late Vice President Walter Mondale. The Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters, the national coalition of more than 400 conservation and hunting & fishing groups and businesses led by Northeastern Minnesotans for Wilderness, seeks two-year commitments from dedicated supporters to help raise $2.5 million per year for 2021 and 2022. Thanks to the work of the Campaign, the Boundary Waters is a priority issue for the Biden Administration and Congress; this has created a path to permanently protect the Boundary Waters and, downstream, Canada’s Quetico Park and Minnesota’s Voyageurs National Park from the risks of sulfide-ore copper mining. It is critical that we act now.
Walter Mondale Legacy Fund Gifts are a commitment for $1,000 or more for both 2021 and 2022. This two-year commitment ensures that the Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters has ample resources to continue the legacy of Vice President Mondale and fight for permanent protections for the BWCA.
