Retirement Account Giving
Give Through Your IRA or Qualified Charitable Distribution
Did you know that if you’re 70½ or older, you can support the Boundary Waters directly from your IRA through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)?
QCDs, also known as IRA charitable rollovers or IRA gifts, allow you to transfer up to $108,000 per year directly from your IRA to a qualified charity like Save the Boundary Waters.
The amount counts toward your required minimum distribution (RMD) and may be excluded from your taxable income, making it a tax-smart way to give. This is a powerful way to protect clean water, wildlife, and wilderness without impacting your cash flow, while letting your dollars go further in support of our mission.

What are the IRA charitable rollover rules?
Here's how a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) works:
- You must be 70½ or older when the distribution is made.
- Your gift must be transferred directly from your IRA custodian to Save the Boundary Waters (no personal checks).
- Maximum annual transfer: $108,000 per individual or $216,000 for married couples filing jointly.
- The distribution must go to a qualified 501(c)(3) organization like Save the Boundary Waters.
- If you have an RMD requirement, your QCD can count toward satisfying it for the year.
Thank You!
Your gift makes a lasting difference for the Boundary Waters. Together, we can ensure this wild and beautiful place is protected for generations to come.
