Save the Boundary Waters

If you are a Gmail user, you may have noticed that your inbox looks a little...different lately.

This past fall, Gmail changed the default mail settings to include, in addition to the Primary tab, a Promotions and Social tab. By default, Gmail now shows promotional emails in order of relevance, not recency.

Important emails from Save the Boundary Waters might be accidentally going into your Promotions tab. You won't get notifications for these emails, which is why messages can get lost or go unseen.

Here are two quick ways to make sure you always see the latest updates in the fight for America's most-visited Wilderness:

1. Move emails from "Promotions" to "Primary" by simply dragging and dropping an email.

  • Find the email within the Promotions tab: simply search for "Save the Boundary Waters," and you should see emails from us (unless they are already in Primary, which means you don't need to change any settings!)
  • Hover over the message and drag it to the Primary inbox. This way, you are "teaching" Gmail what's important in your inbox. Any future emails from Save the Boundary Waters should now always appear in the Primary inbox instead of Promotions. Once our emails reach your Primary inbox, be sure to open them — each open helps Gmail learn that you want to receive our messages.

2. Add Save the Boundary Waters to your "contact" list in Gmail.

  • Another easy way to avoid important emails ending up in the wrong tab is to add Save the Boundary Waters to your list of contacts. This will help Gmail understand that you always want to see mail from us. Here are the steps to add Save the Boundary Waters and an example image below.
  • Find an email within the Promotions tab and open it.
  • Hover over the sender’s name or profile picture.
  • Click the Add to contacts icon. It looks like a person with a + sign.
