Last Saturday marked our nation’s 250th birthday, and marching in the town of Ely’s 4th of July parade was the perfect way to honor the unique things about the United States that we so deeply value – including, of course, protecting our irreplaceable public landscapes, including the Boundary Waters.
Over 30 volunteers came together to celebrate one of the things that we value most about our nation: access to nature. Volunteers, staff, a giant inflatable loon, and even some furry friends marched in the parade carrying signs, handing out candy, portaging canoes(!), and engaging the crowd in chants to show just how much we treasure the Wilderness.
The highlight of the parade was the passion of our amazing volunteers. They showed up and brought electric energy to the crowd. Their dedication to protecting Canoe Country deserves a parade of its own.
Thank you to all who volunteered, cheered, and supported us this 4th of July. Together we can permanently protect the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness!
