Peer-to-peer fundraising is about sharing your Boundary Waters story to inspire action. You don’t need to be an expert or an adventurer—your love for this place is enough. Julia’s story shows just how powerful that can be.

A first birthday in the Wilderness
This year, Julia is taking her son JJ on his very first trip to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Their journey happens to line up with JJ’s first birthday, making the trip all the more meaningful.
“Our son is our miracle,” Julia shared. “To be able to bring him to the Boundary Waters feels like a treasure. I want him to experience the joy of sharing this space with his friends, family, and children one day—just as my grandparents did with their children, and my parents did with us.”
Julia is dedicating the trip to the mothers in her life who taught her how to care for the land and to honor the original mother—the earth itself.
Why Julia is fundraising
The Boundary Waters is America’s most visited Wilderness, but it’s also one of the most threatened. Proposed sulfide-ore copper mining nearby could irreversibly damage this interconnected watershed.
“For JJ’s first birthday we’re joining forces to support Save the Boundary Waters,” Julia said. “They’re working through science, policy, and legal efforts to ensure future generations can experience the embrace of this land.”
Her fundraiser is about more than one family trip—it’s about legacy. Just as the Boundary Waters was passed down to her, Julia is working to make sure her son, and all children, inherit it unspoiled.
