Remembering Speaker Melissa Hortman

Statement from Save the Boundary Waters:

Save the Boundary Waters is heartbroken by the tragic assassination of Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark. We extend our deepest condolences to their family, friends, and colleagues as we mourn this senseless and devastating loss.

We also send our support and sympathy to Senator John Hoffman and his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. We are grateful to hear he is recovering, and we are keeping him and his wife in our hearts.

Speaker Hortman was a fierce leader, a political giant, and a devoted public servant. Her strength, intelligence, and unwavering commitment to the people of Minnesota shaped our state in profound ways. The Minnesota Legislature has lost a visionary leader, and her absence leaves a significant void. Returning to the Capitol will simply never be the same without her presence.

Thank you, Melissa, for your kindness and leadership. You will be deeply missed.
