The Boundary Waters is more than a place on the map – it’s where memories are made, laughter echoes across lakes, and moments of stillness stay with us for a lifetime. Many Wilderness Defenders, just like you, have found deep meaning here and have chosen to carry that love forward by including Save the Boundary Waters in their estate plans.

A planned gift – through your will, retirement account, or life insurance policy – is a way to ensure this wild and beautiful place continues to thrive for generations to come. It doesn’t require a large estate or a certain dollar amount. What matters most is the intention: to protect the Boundary Waters for the people and wildlife who will follow.

Jeff’s Story

Jeff, a member of our Boundary Waters Legacy Society, shared this memory that shaped his decision:

“About 25 years ago, me, my dad, a very good friend and his dad spent about 5 days in the Boundary Waters. We established a base camp and took loooong canoe trips each day, portaging between lakes. I remember the calls of the loons in the morning. I remember the quiet on the last lake as we paddled back to camp each evening.

Our dads are gone but my friend and I still reminisce about this trip and revisit the shared memory. We laugh when we recount the time he and his dad tipped their canoe over in shallow water. My dad and I couldn't figure out what they were doing!

In honor of these memories, I am leaving part of my estate to Save the Boundary Waters. I hope everyone will have the chance to create their own memories at this special place long into the future.”

Jeff’s words remind us that the Boundary Waters is such a special Wilderness. It’s a legacy we will pass on. The memories we carry from its lakes and forests can inspire a gift that ensures others will paddle these waters, hear the loons, and find the same peace.
